lol i can't argue with the mongrel theory, considering my favourite song on the album (the gap) probably has the most mongrel. especially the crunchy guitars in the verses.

the ethereal lead guitar reminds me of later pink floyd as well, on a side note. david gilmour-esque

Hmmm, Pink Floyd... That's what I was trying to convey with the "Muse/theatricality" points... But Pink Floyd never came to mind.

Nice one Davey. Your review is definitely better than mine, but i still think this is better than Universes. Only for the reason that the high points are much higher on this. The Gap, Circles and If This Ship Sinks are the three best sons BoT have written. I do agree on the conisistency issue though.

Ta Billy. In a way, I think both our reviews provide a certain counter-point, yet we end up with similar ratings & the exact same 3 highlight tracks.

But yeah, I have 'Universes' clearly better than this.

I just love how consistently good this album is.

I gotta agree about the best 3 tracks as well.

I don't know why but I also really love "Wild at Heart"

PunPun, if I had to name a weakest track, it would be 'Wild At Heart' so I'm not sure what you're hearing.

I have never tasted whale drool soup.

LG, maybe Ian has to concentrate more on this band.

I can't stop listening to "Circles". Everyone who named it was a highlight was very, very right.

Haha I forgot about that! Yeah, this is far worse than the last release though. I would have to say I now genuinely despise this band. Most of these songs wouldn't be out of place on a John Farnham record. Kenny is making it really, really hard for me to enjoy his work now.

Harsh, not a comparison I was expecting at all.

Maybe harsh but that's the first thing that came to mind when I heard Plans. The lyrics are beyond bad.
