Vais a good guitarist but he is soooo cheesy nd just cause he can play god knows how many notes a minute doesn't meen hes a god. Personally i don't like any of his songs except maybe bad horsie. I much prefer satch because he rights better songs and he taught Vai in the first place anyway. Who cares if he can make his guitar sound weird...that doesnt equal greatness.

WOOT, this album is probably the best intrumental rock album i've heard, kicks Satriani's bald ass anyday.

Passion & Warfare is one of my favorite albums I have ever listened to, This album definitely has a general theme, the passion to create and the ability to destroy. All the songs are amazing.
Personally, i dont have a favorite, i like every song, but the ones i listen to the most would be the 7th Song "For The Love Of God", "I Would Love To" "Erotic Nightmares" "Blue Powder" and "Love Secrets"

Passion & Warfare
has reached immortality

To the true guitar lover, P&W is like a new testament to the guitar's symphonic and melodic limitations... An incredibly broad range of emotion and skill, this is one of those albums that demands your awe. For musicians of any sort, this is a piece where skill trancends mere flashiness and becomes integral to the message itself. The end of "Blue Powder" is just one such example. Although "Passion & Warfare" requires a certain 'attachment' period, it is not unlike many of the great works of art in human history; it's complexity cannot be revealed in a single observation.

There is only one word to describe this album: BRILLIANCE!

What exactly qualifies as a "real" band to you Per Ardua Ad Astra. This pretty much sounds like a band to me. And also he used to play with Frank Zappa. Anyway, Steve Vai is a great musician. I'm not a fan of virtuosos myself though either. There is much more to music than technical ability. Steve Vai can play a mean guitar and put on a decent show, but he doesn't have the passion required for an exceptional performance. Some of the best musicians ever to record have barely any technical ability.

Surfing With The Alien by Satriani does kick this album's ass, however unlike SWTA this album has a magical aura when you listen... well that's what I felt XD

For The Love Of God is a great track, one of my favs

To anyone who says this album is "showboating" or Vai's excuse to shred for an hour:

Steve uses his guitar to convey emtions on every level. Sure not all of the tracks are amazing but songs such as Sisters and Blue Powder are sincere. Don't get all pissy 'cause the man can play ;)

With Steve Vai it's as much about what he's playing as how he is playing it. There's tons of people who can shred. There's no one that can shred like Vai.

When I first heard this album I got shocked. Awesome album!

It's not just music, it's really a work of art. A trully masterpiece.

The talks in the songs are just great.

"Fire Garden" is my favorite music album, but "Passion and Warfare" is a true piece of art.

Classic!!

This is Vai's best album. One of the best shredders and his tone is always excellent. The backup band is solid as well.

That said, Vai does not come close to Satch. Satch has perfected instrumental rock. Vai's later stuff is mindless, where as Satch has a solid catalog.

There are moments where the solos don't fit and the production's age catches up with it, but the emotion Vai plays with is unmatched. Plus, DAT GUITAR TONE

This is pretty good, but Steve tends to put style over substance quite often. Many needlessly flashy parts of songs that don't add to the melody at all. Plus those annoyingly funky basslines, get that shit out of my shred lol. Satch is a much better songwriter
