If this sounds anything like Metanoia or w/e then yeah definitely not

It's mildly fascinating how lame this album is, but it's still just run of the mill plinky keyboard melodeath crap at the end of the day lol

Only true ones understand the difference between this and ‘insert other symphonic melodeath album’ because this is a cut above my friend

Genre defining, quite literally

Distinctly horrible for me. I'm not a melodeath guy in general but had to check this based on the rating. The guitar tone is abysmal, the drums sound they were recorded on a tape recorder in a soda can, and don't even get me started on those keyboard passages. It sounds like music for guys with long hair who live with their parents, don't bathe and never go outside. The tracklist also makes my eyes bleed. I should know better by now tho. Pretty much anything labeled "progressive" or "melodic" I'm probably going to hate.

That reminds me, the percussion on the remaster doesn’t sound right to me. I don’t think everyone had this issue, but I’d stick to the original (@ slex)

And no, this is nowhere near as dialled back / ‘atmospherically inclined’ as Metanoia, in fact it could almost be a different band entirely. There are no post elements here. Proggy symphonic melodeath, that’s plenty techy but insanely cohesive. I love that the riffs actually have some low end and the keys aren’t overly airy either, plus the harsh vox pack a punch - the og production is fantastic so don’t listen to Rowhaus. I wouldn’t love this so much if it was the ‘limp’ light melodeath you often hear

Hmmm maybe I'll give it a shot, I hate prog and absolutely fell head over heels in love with Metanoia, made me feel a lil more open minded

Yeah OG prod is awesome, it's raw and gives plenty of bite to the guitars. Absolutely nothing wrong with the keys either, they're fantastic accompaniments to the arrangements and infuse so much dramatic atmosphere into proceedings.

Do NOT check the remaster.

I tried the open-minded thing for a while. Turns out life is just so much better when you're a close-minded asshole.

I like you Row but calling this guitar tone abysmal is genuinely hilarious. I knew you'd hate this but I thought you'd at least appreciate the guitar tone

Symphonic prog-style melodeath is my jam so this is perfect for me. But on the other hand, I could definitely see why someone wouldn’t really gel with this.

Like come on that opening riff in the first track is used as a leitmotif for super pissed Demeter that's the tightest shit.

Also imagine taking the remaster when it doesn't have the Train of Consequences cover, couldn't be me.
