Is it time for a Core jam session?
I'll grab the lube

Hope they still riff hard & the production is similar after this, don’t want it going all Ne Obliviscaris (sligh dig as I’ve jammed both recently)

Oh, there are riffs aplenty through their entire discography. The difference is that their first two albums, Truth Inside the Shades and Core, are more straightforward progressive death metal, while the later work becomes more technical in nature. They retain the same identity, right down to the guitar tone and central dynamics, but how they exactly present themselves does change.
If it's any indication of how good they still are, their most recent release is a solid 5 for me

This album is awesome, the one after it wasn’t too shabby either. Debut was a bit rougher around the edges but I still enjoyed it.
Great band.

One of the best to be sure.
Shin-Ken is very underrated, so I'm glad you gave it a shot

I haven’t rated this yet. Honestly could have the honour of becoming my 4th ‘insta-5/5’ after Still Life, Symbolic & Homogenic. That’s some company.
Album blows my mind.

It blew mine to pieces too all those years ago. You would not be alone

When I say ‘insta’ I’ve heard it 3 times, the presise number of times it took me to 5/5 those aforementioned albums. Something special here. I’ve only heard the ‘surrounding’ records once but will be interested to revisit. Spiritual was less enjoyable but will play that & Aathma in full at some point as well.

Their whole discog is, in my opinion, with little to no flaw. Either 4.5s or 5s from me

At worst I’ll try them all again, this is so good that I’m optimistic there’s more greatness. Shin Ken definitely seems like it gets there at times on first impression.

Hello fresh shiny 5. Jamming now. m/
It’s a shame the rest of their stuff seems to pale in comparison.

I understand how you would feel that way, but I definitely disagree. Shin-Ken is for sure an amazing album, and probably one of their must underrated.

Forgot to mention that it's gonna be guest starred by the violin dude from Ne Obliviscaris

I think the synth makes this album, adds that extra flavor to it, and it is so awesome

Ok, the remastered version sounds like balls, I got 1:24 through the first track & longed for the original. Those drums especially. It’s a shame the physical copy of the original is hard to obtain, really want it.

Have you checked ebay? I managed to get a rare copy from 2007 for about 60 dollars.
