Refining the sound from their screamo-heavy EP, young Aussie septet We Are The Emergency’s debut LP ‘Whispers & Fragments’ is a surprisingly mature offering. While it is not super immediate (not helped by its song titles), it has a progressive air that makes it a real grower. And just when it feels like too many songs bleed into each other, Sophie Rodgers’ vocals & keys add perfect variety. Recommended Tracks: It's Floating Wicker Propelled By Fire, Ink Well Paper Stain, My Conscience Is The Only One Who Gets Me & Coloured Pastels/Racing Hearts.

I've given this CD a lot of time to resonate. I think it's a superb CD. Absolutely beautiful

Tbh, I was pretty surprised they changed their sound so much. My intial thoughts were that they went too far the other way... matured too quickly, as such... But after a fair bit of listening, it does settle in excellently.

I was shocked when i first heard it, and honestly...kinda hated it. I wanted their mindless
aggression. I actually like putting the Ep and the LP on random they really really mesh together
pretty well
my tastes have shifted and now it clicks so beautifully. I really like it, it's insanely melodic and
insanely aggressive in like..a nice way? if that makes sense.

It does make sense, although I think I wanted a little bit more aggression. I'm being picky though, as this will be on my year-end list.
BTW, these guys are practically unknown down under.

Really? that's surprising considering they are a UK band..or Aussie band aren't they? I don't
remember much of their back-story, but I do know one or more members was in Dance Gavin Dance.
dude you should really try listening to the EP and the entire LP on random, it's a really good mesh.
It also makes you appreciate the intricacies involved in the LP the stuff you don't hear at face
value.
edit: to add to that, it's kinda the process of 'damn I could almost use a scream, I duno why but I
feel like I need it..', bam. Seizure EP comes on for a song. you're like wow k that was refreshing,
now I need more melodic interluding, oh sweet here's the LP again. I duno..they need to release a
deluxe edition and include a remastering of the EP... and I feel like I am getting a little long-
winded when you kinda already know all this. I just feel a certain passion for these guys. I really,
really enjoy them

They're Aussie (from Perth). And as far as I know, there is no connection with Dance Gavin Dance (apart from maybe production).
Man, I think I just found someone that waffles on more than me. LOL. But yeah, I get what you're saying.

HEY JOHN, I LIKE YOUR FACE ( YOU IGNORED ME ON FACEBOOK JERK )
I like to express myself. And seeing as how I obviously can't pitch my ideas out there in person all I have left is getting my emotions out through pattering away aimlessly in text walls. (consider me the bring me the horizon of speech)
I coulda sworn I read somewhere a guitarist was from DGD...eh

Mr. BMTH... You might be right, but the different countries would make it a long shot.

screaming on track 3 is great they should've incorporated it a little more throughout the record.
they sound like emery.

Track 3 is indeed the best. And I don't blame anyone for calling it track 3, because too many of these song titles are terrible & counter-productive.

Rofl yeah some of the titles are meant to be massively edgy but they come off so cliche. It's like Juturna Circa survive status. hableh

Exactly. And they make the album less immediate, while also giving off the perception that too many songs sound like each other.

so true.
I like that we can see eye to eye davey it's nice. I don't usually see a lot of you because of the musical tastes. But it's refreshing when we do meet, we are on the same page.

Why thank-you dear sir. Let's call it The Emery Effect.

Alright, so initially upon first listen I thought it was no more than a satisfactory effort. About 10 plays later, I have now made up my mind and have decided that this is the best cd I've listened to in a long time.
A couple of tracks are mediocre and I still believe that the screaming could've been incorporated beautifully into a few more tracks. However, all in all the majority of tracks are captivating, original and catchy. Oh and I'd also like to add that the sparing but effective use of the females vocals are amazing.

the female vocals are almost solely for backup atmospheric effect.
they're masterminds.
and ps, davey. Hell ya the emery-effect ;)

Well said Charlie... Apart from that " best cd I've listened to in a long time" comment, but I guess that's your call to make.
This definitely would not be as good without the occasional female vocals.

Thanks Davey.
Well The reason why I decided to add that comment is because I've been quite disappointed with a few recent (mainly post hardcore) efforts by the bands that I expected a lot more from.
At first, I was a little let down by this, but it has since grown on me, unlike the other records which I hoped that would have also.
