Real metal for one thing. Maybe start with something more accessable like Nuclear Assault or old Pantera or Anthrax idk. Then maybe branch out to heavier shi like Morbid Angel or Sepultura.

shinedown is somewhat nu-metal; they can be thrown in with both nu-metal and heavy rock depending on what songs you are listening to by them. Not all of their songs fit in those categories, but the vast majority does.
