Review Summary: Great Nu-Metal Beginning

Let's go back to 1994, A time when Grunge bands and metal were very popular. So now you're sitting around listening to your favorite metal station when a fast paced and aggressive sounding song comes on with a man screaming "are you ready", with blistering heavy bass and fast guitar and drumming, This is of course was a radio hit by the Nu-metal band Korn

This album from Korn was released in 1994 ,and it helped introduce the genre of Nu-Metal and make it a popular genre in the 90's. When Korn first started out it was like a small school showing with minimal audience appearance and a few fans. The radio started to play music from a new band named Korn , just a small band from Bakersfield California with no fan base at the time. This album itself has a lyrical style that could speak to many people in the world today.

For instance the song fagot, is about Jonathan Davis's Traumatic and horrible school bullying issues. Another song daddy, spoke about the rape of young Johnathan by a family friend. This song really speaks to a large crowd, and it could mean something to someone who knows a rape victim or someone who is a rape victim. Now the music isn't all good. I found shoots and ladders to be a bit retarded, and repetitive at times, also the bagpipe could have been taken out and i probably wouldn't have cared. Another song they could have done without would have probably been Clown, i know you have aggression and anger Johnathan but you don't have to make every song you sing about an issue in your life. Now we can move onto the music, behind the lyrics.

The music on this album is like something you might hear on some sort of B+ horror movie, you know the ones with haunting metal and heavy super heavy screaming and shit like that. I mean Fieldy just goes crazy on the bass, slapping it up and creating memorable riffs. Munky goes to town on the guitar as well, with a couple speedy riffs but unfortunately not a single solo. The drums were fast based at times as well, and they begin to bleed into the music and become a bit more unnoticeable after a while. However, even if the msuic was fast and aggressive there was just a feel around it that i didn't like. At times i felt like i was listening to carnival music, i don't know why but the feeling was there.

So by now you've probably decided whether or not you like the album or you're just gonna pass on it, and i strongly urge you to look it up and at least give it a few spins. It is worth it, you will enjoy it for the time it takes to get over the carnival sound at times, and the anger in EVERY song. If you wanna hear a little old school Nu-metal sound then just check out this album and tell me what you think about it.

This song really speaks to a large crowd, for many teens and adults are raped in our country and it's a horrible thing, that song is very moving and could mean something to a large amount of the fans of this band.

So fans of this band are often raped?

Uhh fieldy is definitely their bassist dude. I enjoy Korn's first four albums no matter what anyone says about the band/genre/metal time period. Poorly written review however.

Well, there's the fact that there was lot more going on in 1994 than just rap. Grunge was still really big for example. Plus, Pantera was carrying the metal crown at the time.
