Some harsh criticisms of this album. It's even more complicated than Sagas in parts and therefore needs some time to sink in. Even the simpler songs like Der Ewige Sieg and Verbrannte Erde have hidden depths to them. Re: the latter, I saw the March of Mephisto reference at first, but the more you listen to it, the more you realise how clever that basic melody is played with throughout the song, how it twists and turns. Rene is a great composer and you guys need to give this album more time to breath so you can fully take in his genius.

He's far from a genius.

Rene is a composer of terrible music.

this was such a disappointing release, compared to Sagas, so disappointing

congrats on the feature!

Well considering he does all the keyboards himself and layers them so proficiently that it feels like they've got a whole orchestra behind them, I would say that is a prodigiousness verging on genius. I would say genius itself, but if you're splitting hairs.
Guy who killed his own wife says Rene makes terrible music. Like anyone can take that seriously. :P
Why do you find it so disappointing, Ikarus?

LOL FAHRTWIND = FART WIND

Working with your instrument for quite some time and gaining a massive amount of skill is still far from a genius.

With songs like "Fahrtwind" and "Die Affeninsel," the latter being based on the Monkey Island computer game, there's no way you can argue that these guys take themselves too seriously. Playing fun, over-the-top music has always been Equilibrium's goal, and I think they do a great job of delivering what they set out to do. When placed next to Sagas, this album is certainly inferior, but on its own, it's really enjoyable, in my opinion at least. Totally agree about the slightly awkward female vocals though. I also think that their new drummer is not as good as their previous one.

After 3 listens now I am still not overly impressed with this album. Sagas is far better.

I did not mean to argue that. I'm saying that they're taking their own sound (which is not MEANT to be serious) too seriously, which results in it not working as well as it ought to.

Listening right now and enjoying it quite a lot. Anyone else think that the music video for Der Ewige Sieg is pointless?
