and imo merritt's purely musical composition is only a small component that's there to aid his lyrical and thematic construction
That's why I'm doing the discography, to touch upon both his music and his lyrics. I read your review, and it was good as usual, but I don't think it focused enough on the music. Also, on this album he's toned his indulgence with irony and shit like that down some, and I touch on his irony in the first paragraph and touch on how it's been reduced in the other parts of the review.
Similarly, this is the only Jesus and Merrit Chain album, so imo it's important.

Yeah, it's generally accepted that Merritt's really ironic. And the world makes sense again.
