Right on, Valerius. FFIV is also my favorite.

Overall, the PS1 years were the best though. The music in the games from this era are unmatched. PS1 Squaresoft games in general really. As far as actual gameplay, FFVIII is very close behind IV as my favorite. It's probably the better game. VII and IX are also among the greatest. And if you count Tactics, then it's really no contest.

Tactics is amazing

I've seen them. Friends were playing them. Didn't care for them. Maybe I was growing out of them. They seemed to be catering to a younger market(or was that me getting older?). Idk but at that time I was more interested in playing Tekken 1 and 2, Metal Gear Solid and stuff like that.

I would definitely agree with that in regards to the PS2 games, but I consider FFVIII to be the most mature entry in the main series.

this game and ost are engrained in my psyche for some reason

In 7, with the cutscenes and stuff yeah it got more anime-y but 9 and 10 are two of the best, though I quit 8 and haven't played 6.

Beat this game not too long ago. Flawed, sure, but still one of my favourite games.

I was using an emulator to play this but couldn't stand how long it took to start a battle between the black screen / swirl / and intro camera. This mod lets you go straight into the battle if you want.
