I can see similarity to Symbolic but that's about it. How you give that a 2.5 and this a 4.0 is beyond me

I don't see a lot of doom influence on this album... the slower tempo parts are certainly more melodic and don't have a lot of reverb unlike what you'd get from doom.

I think Symbolic (and Death overall) sucks for a multitude of reasons. The vocals and guitar tone are horrid, the riffs are repetitive and bland, the songwriting is boring and incorporates too many dumb ideas, and the production is thin as rice paper. They're one of those bands people feel pressured to like, but when you take away the non-music elements like Chuck's death (RIP btw), "influence", clout, genre-pioneering, etc. it's just really not good at all. Hard pass.
