That's just not true. However is a perfectly legitimate way to start a sentence. You're never supposed to separate your subject from your verb.

I prefer 'it, however, goes' personally

you can't start a sentence with 'however'; i don't remember the specific reason but i think it has something to do with however being more of a 'speech' type word

That rule is ancient and generally considered outdated. It's okay as long as you put a comma after it so that the reader is aware the word is standing in for another similar word (usually 'nevertheless').

Edit: Actually, looking at different sources turns up a lot of conflicting views on that one, but my profs have always said it's pretty much totally acceptable in academic writing these days.
