Now that I've listened to The Drum and The Design more I've figured how safe they kinda played it on TCF. Though that record is still a fun listen.

I think that's what it is...you hit the nail on the head. The fact is they played it safe and were less experimental and innovative on TCF. Some of the songs are actually quite plain. Though, the songs that are good on TCF are reeeeally good. Just seems that there is much more filler on that album than this. The Cure and Alone Awake are absolutely phenomenal.

I mean, it's not bad by any means, but I don't find it that interesting either. This whole album grew off me pretty fast after I got it. I pretty much only come back to Reaction and Design.

I love these guys self titled EP so much. However I don't think they have managed to top any of the songs on it ever since. This album was excellent but lacked something that made the EP so perfect. The Catalyst Fire is pretty samey with some great instrumentation but the vocals have become very stale and the choruses are pretty poor
