You guys seem to be a bit hung up on said "puke noises." It was a simple reference and isn't used to "classify" his other projects. Learn to read.

That's bullshit. He did a fair amount of singing in Tomahawk, the Perfect Place OST was almost all singing, Lovage and Peeping Tom. The only time he's "dicked around on the the microphone" was Adult Themes, which he himself said was more of an exercise of his voice than an album.
I think it's interesting that you don't have any of those albums rated by the way.

When you insinuate in the summary for the review that this album is notable because it is "free of
puke noises", then don't be so surprised when people reference it in the thread. My point is that its
a lazy generalization, especially when you consider that he has had plenty of singing projects in
those years. And no, i'm not a "butthurt fanboy" (good rebuttal to criticism of your review) i dislike
plenty of his post FNM work.

Yeah, I forgot that SputnikMusic.com ratings were the only way to tell if someone's heard anything.
The only time he's "dicked around on the the microphone" was Adult Themes, which he himself said was more of an exercise of his voice than an album.
Maldoror, his work with Zorn, his work with Bjork, Fantomas (who I do like, but that's besides the point) and countless live and solo performances.

a lazy generalization, especially when you consider that he has had plenty of singing projects in
those years.
But he's had just as many 'puke noise' projects. My point isn't that he stopped singing, it's that I wish he did it more.

It's a quick way of telling fans that he's singing instead of dicking around. It's not implying that his lack of 'puke noises' make the album worthwhile, it's just an indication that they aren't there. And it isn't that people are referencing it, it's that they're focusing on it. It's a passing reference, get over it.
I'm probably not going to talk about this anymore. He's had singing projects, yeah, but Kaada/Patton and Lovage are probably the only good ones. Tomahawk sucks and Peeping Tom was boring (though I mentioned it) and almost anything else is either a collaboration or a guest spot.

I feel like pressing this point is a bit ridiculous, I honestly thought the puke noises line was a joke. No need to argue over it.

Yeah, after this comment i'm done talking about this too. I can see where you're coming from in that
you were trying to sum up your view of his post FNM output, but many times i've seen people (usually
in mainstream music mags) dismiss his albums in the 2000's as mostly noise and not worth peoples time.
I think there's a lot of good, fairly accessible stuff in there amidst the noise and weirdness.
And I haven't really pressed the point, I mentioned it once and then responded to Cocaine's follow-
up. Good review btw, i'd agree with most of your other points about this record.

Touche. Edit: @ Cocaine
And yeah I wasn't really referring to you Porch no worries

And just so we're clear, I'll always prefer this kind of discourse over the usual spam and bullshit that we get in these review threads. I just wanted to cease talking about it because I don't want to make it a bigger deal than it is.

Downloading this now, i've only heard the bootlegs so far. I thought maybe that you could've gone into a bit more detail about the source material for this, but otherwise a good review.

While I understand why you'd say this, I'm not sure to what benefit it would be. Not only would I be getting the majority of my information from sites like Wikipedia, thus I'd essentially just be paraphrasing facts, but it doesn't have much bearing on what you're listening to.

i agree with the puke noises assertion. however, they're not necessarily bad puke noises... a lot of the zorn stuff was really good.
this record is alright so far.

I dont mind some of it, I just really, really like his voice when he's singing.

yeah, maybe.. i just felt that maybe a little more backstory as to why he covered these songs and the original composers would've been interesting. doesn't really matter that much though. listening now and its pretty great so far

M'kay, can we be done with that now? Anyway, good review. I can't wait to hear this.
|

yeah i'm pretty sure we were done with that yesterday but whatever
|

3 pages and no Pacman reference to the album cover?

this is great

Seems more like you tried to write his biography than a review on Mondo Cane. I disagree with you on most of your points, I guarantee I heard quite a few puke noises and patton-esque screams that were well placed and very effective in this context. And the replay value is much greater than you gave it credit for.
