Hell There's times I put this on and can't vibe with it and I regularly listen to dm. Not accessable at all. I got the vinyl here at the house I deff love the record but yeah it's something I gotta be in the mood for to say the least but when it hits it hits hard

Definitely a time and place record. Kind of like The Erosion of Sanity in that sense (and similar era). Hard classic though!

Forsure. Something like Suffocation I could put on anyday of the week there's actually a lot of melody and technicality with them that's going to keep you engaged. But this honestly I don't even jam much. It's just such a dark menacing album and there's not a lot of melody or even technicality it's just more about the evil atmosphere than anything.Time and place like you said yup. but top notch

Honestly I'll take an Incantation classic over a Suffocation classic almost any day, but Suffocation has never really been a big band in my rotation for a long time, as much I respect them.

I picked up the CD/live DVD combo at their Boston show with Belphegor and Dark Funeral a few years ago. That was a blast.

"its extremely dense and labyrinthine. of the "classic" death metal bands i think theyre easily the least accessible. like i can see someone who is a big fan of like death and morbid angel having a tough time getting into it."
Agreed for sure. I just figured it'd be right up my alley, because I vastly preferred Immolation, Suffocation, and stuff like Convulse or even Funebrarum's debut over stuff like Morbid Angel. But this is obviously different even from those.
But then it might've also been my expectations, especially coming from doom death like Autopsy, or in particular doom/death of the gothic variety (Paradise Lost and shit). None of those bands are remotely comparable to this and tend to be quite melodic, vs this album is just....probably what you said about it being "dense" is most accurate, or maybe dense and suffocating lol

This is definitely suffocating in the best possible way. The most evil sounding metal album ever made. It's like hell is literally coming through the speakers.

Autopsy is the closest as far as their peers in the early 90s for that brutally harsh sound. Don't think anyone else was doing this yet.

nuclear death is probably the best example. bride of insect is 1990 and that shit sounds insane for being that early. but it was so inaccessible that they never really got out of the underground.

Infester is awesome. Kinda want to jam now.
I don't think I've checked Nuclear Death, but that Bride of Insect album sounds familiar. Must be something I meant to check and never did. Gonna have to fix that soon.
