I'm still in high school and am taking AP Language now, as well as honors classes before, just so you know.
I think my assumptions are pretty justified. I wouldn't consider someone a music fan if they didn't think energy was important. It's a bit of an opinion.

True, I've always been taught to assume nothing. Always write assuming your audience knows nothing is a guideline I usually stick to.

Yeah, but I'm writing for a music review site. It's different.

I didn't read the entire review...i will get to that but i had to comment on this
After being mocked constantly during the Saturday Night Wrist years because of his weight gain (due to quitting many drugs), he is now in the best shape of his life.
What does this have to do with his music? Also i find it strange when people comment on this because if your looking at his physical health you might as well look at everyone else in the band too. Naturally as the main vocalist he does have that bigger appeal than everyone else in the band. Still pretty weird

You obviously didn't read the next sentence saying that it includes his vocals. What shape the singer is in affects his/her performance heavily. If you look at any live videos during the SNW tour, he didn't sound that great. In contrast to how he was just a couple of years ago, he now sounds better than he ever has.

possibly...but why are some opera singers fat =P. I mean yes obviously this is his best or close to his best vocals but i think that goes beyond him being *in shape* or not.....i think during a previous tour for SNW he like damaged his vocal cords or something so their better now.
I'm not completely objecting the statement...rather it could go other ways too. Same with your first sentence on energy...it could have a quiet intensity or even a sleepy feel and still could be good. Regardless solid review, i think i like DE/SNW/WP just about the same in terms of excellence...but i think i like this a tad bit more cause its balanced really well and the songs are MUCH more optimistic then their older stuff.

Also, opera singers aren't expected to jump all over the stage.

^The band never added it, the record label did. They were pretty pissed about it really.

I'm not going to pretend to have read EVERY comment, but I will say that the second paragraph's opening is fine, it annoys me to see "The" put in front of Deftones sometimes too. now, if you were referring to, say, "the Deftones' signature sound" where it was possessive, then it would make sense.
But you never see anyone referring to the band Battles as "The Battles are a great band." It would just be "Battles is a great band."
Good review.

This review blows, your review seems irrelevant because your summary is obviously a rebuttal to Greer's. And it is better than White Pony simply because CMND/CTRL is the best Deftones song.
SWITCHING COMMAANNDD! JUST BECAUSE I CANN!

That it probably is...but it works because even if Greer's review wasn't there, it would work perfectly fine on its own as a summary of the album.
It wasn't a bad review, just...I don't know, could be better. Also...that last sentence was really weird to me. But yeah...I think "Deftones are..." sound right.

So my summary makes the review irrelevant? What logic, especially considering that I wrote the REVIEW ITSELF before his review was ever posted. Getting a neg with constructive criticism is one thing, but getting a neg for no real reason at all is just dumb.

Lots of people neg for no particular reason, i guess it makes them feel better or something
