gotta have ghost key in my top 5 somewhere, that song is just filled with some of the most memorable melodies and awesome textures
|
| |
panopticon is maybe just slightly better than this imo

It definitely is but Weight destroys anything on that record imo

Yeah, Ghost Key is a killer track indeed.
WR is underrated.

panopticon is nothing compared to the beauty of oceanic!

mongi: agreed

Personally prefer Oceanic due to the rawer feel and the audible basslines

You think this is rawer than Panopticon? That record is a lot more raw and the bass is often the centerpiece in some of the
songs.

bass is barely audible for the most part in Panopticon imo

"You think this is rawer than Panopticon?"
That's how it sounds like to me personally, Panopticon is still a fantastic album, but it just doesn't pack the punch Oceanic had imo

Listen to it with really good speakers. The bass will floor you on In Fiction, plus even if it isn't audible on that one, the intense atmosphere still slays. I will agree with you there that the bass is a lot more audible on this yea.

i have panopticon and while its my 2nd fave isis (and a masterpiece in its own right), the compositions/melodies/atmospheres on here hit me harder

best album ever made agreed

"rawer feel and the audible basslines" yep, plus you just cant beat those stoner ass sludge riffs in 'the other', 'weight' and 'hym'.

Definitions of "raw" must vary from person to person. This always seemed more raw to me.

This is pretty raw and stripped down compared to their later stuff. It's like a Wrangler with big knobby tires and the doors taken off.
