oh and as for recs....PreCambrian is debatably their best for now but its a massive album that will take more than a few listens to fully digest otherwise any point i think is fine

Willie, go with Precambrian. Both sides, in order. It'll show you how massively heavy this band can be, then how that sound was expanded on the second side.

I don't see much emotion on this. Even the concept isn't emotional, it's just a criticism of religion.

your right the concept isnt emotional. but i think since the vocals are much more dominant here it plays a more controlling role-and yea-to my ears it sounds emotive.

I think once the 2nd half comes out this fall everyone's going to look back at this and realize that it's not so bad.

The fact that the vocals are so dominant really brings down the album for me. Precambrian had this swirl of different vocal styles, especially in Mount Sorrow, that really displayed emotion for me, even in the lyrics. This vocalist is just so.. monotone and bland. His screams are fucking great, so it's a pity that it isn't used often.

I'm pretty sure the next album comes out in August or something.

I'll check out Shift later.

Also, need more positives on my review!

Fogdiver doesn't have vocals, but it's like if Burst was an instrumental band.

Fluxion and Aeolian are very similar since they were intended to be a released together. The only difference is that Aeolian is heaver, also it's the band's most heaviest album.

Precambrian is the band's most hailed album. It's like this album in the sense that it also features piano and strings, but that's only one half of the album. The other is in the vain of Aeolian. Considered to be The Ocean's opus.

Take your pick Willie.

Well, the heavy half is 30 minutes long while the progressive half is an hour. Not exactly half by definition, just to clear that up.

I neg'd for two reasons:

1. It doesn't really read like a full-length review, sometimes short reviews are good but I'd like a bit more detail in there.

2. You focus on the negatives, thereby not justifying the 3 that you've given it.

But for a first review it's pretty good and I'm sure your next one will be better so keep it up! It's certainly a lot better than I was at the beginning.

@ Willie:

Yeah, I keep meaning to listen to that album. I've heard two opinions of it, that it's really good or really bad!

Listened to them a while back, good stuff. Didn't know they had a new one coming out. I'll definitely be looking forward to that one.
