Your lil bro rules then

oh yeah definitely Emma, forgot about that one. maybe Helplessness Blues but at this point it seems like we're including every well received indie rock record of the past few years haha. but seriously, i'd consider Emma more of an "objective classic" than this - who doesn't love that one?
and the Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Dead? is what i was talking about, amazing record super unique. kinda like Canada's answer to Aeroplane Over the Sea.

Wow that Unicorns record sounds super interesting, I'll have to check it out.
Didn't really rate Helplessness Blues highly at all (or Fleet Foxes in general). They are pleasant to listen to, but apart from some brilliant vocal harmonies and a few stand out songs, I find them kinda boring.

The Meadowlands by The Wrens is a classic for sure, and that's from 2003. Fuck that record is amazing.

ILLINOIS!

oh shit Illinois probably deserves to be up there too. I just wish he would have cut it down by about 20 minutes, it just drags on way too long. Casimir Pulaski Day and The Predatory Wasps are two of my all time favourite songs.

what's Illinois
|
| |
i still prefer Seven Swans for pretty much exactly that reason (length, and i like that style of folk a lot) but I'd consider Illinois as more of a classic due to its impact and originality. and cause how many people just love the damn thing to death.

come on, Rowan! Feel the Illinois!!

oh and one last addition: Black Foliage. for me at least. i think it's better than every record mentioned so far, and believe me that's saying a lot

Fair enough demi man, Seven Swans is the first thing I'm jamming when I finally get my god damn laptop
fixed and can d/l new jams again.
Illinois is a 70 minute concept album about (you guessed it) the state of Illinois, written by a
genius (insane?) American folk singer/songwriter/composer/christian boy scout with waaaay too many
crazy musical ideas in his head. When he nails it (which is kinda often) he completely hits it out of
the park. On a record of this magnitude, however, their will always be filler and ideas that fall
comparatively flat. Overall, its a pretty incredible achievement, just one that's not without its
faults.
