Tool and Deftones were the first two Metal bands I heard. Tool grew off me unlike Deftones.
Both though when you get down to it use mainstream Metal sounds but with their own flourishes so technically theyre both generic nu-metal with pretty chords if you wanna go at it that way.

There's one lonely Deftones album that I like better than a total of two Tool albums. And that's pretty much it. Still a great band though, and very consistent over a way longer discography, so no disrespect at all.
