MDB >>>>>, agreed. But The Background is certainly up there. So are God of Wine and Losing a Whole Year.

This album does shit to me when I listen to it.

Actually, you don’t listen to this album. It listens to you.

As far as I'm concerned, this album, Weezer's blue album, and Semisonic's Feeling Strangely Fine are basically the holy trinity of 90s power pop. I know that last one isn't quite as popular (other than Closing Time), but I feel it's definitely comparable in quality to the other two

"I'm really glad I got into this album when I was in high school because it hits so hard and I don't think it would if I had waited longer."

Agreed hard. Doesn't have the same effect w/ people listening to it now. It's like everyone's collective nostalgic value of this is just as strong as the album itself.

this album is a good rock album nonetheless though. the lyrics are hella strong, it's well-produced without sounding overcooked, it's catchy without feeling corny. I mean it's got it all. I'm sure people hearing this for the first time today would agree unless they're, humbly speaking, complete shitweasels.

As someone who never heard anything off this (withholding Semi and Jumper) until a few months ago, can confirm it’s still good without nostalgia

yeah i didn't hear the full album 'til like 2 years ago and still fell in love w/ it

i do have to say though i've never quite loved those last 2 tracks nearly as much as others seem to, i don't think they're crazily better than the rest of the record or anything, which seems to be the popular opinion

Yeah I only got into this about 2 years ago and I love it as much as someone who grew up with it.

It's an album that honestly ages better the older you get.

Speaking of which I think I need to revisit this because I heard “God Of Wine” recently and it destroyed me. Could be that I’ve gotten into a bit more emo stuff recently (not that this is emo but I think there is some influence of it)

Well glad to hear that people who have recently got into it enjoy it a lot! I was just speaking from a few people on this thread who couldn't seem to grasp it cuz they hadn't enjoyed it in the 90s.
