Souvenirs was amazing when it came out and is still a great record, but they really outdid themselves after that album with Ecailles and Kodama

I don't think anyone on this thread hates Souvenirs, it's just that Alcest are amazingly consistent. Souvenirs is still a strong 4/5 to me, but Voyages is a bit above it for me because of the title track and Faiseurs.

Écailles and Kodama, on the other hand, are just stronger albums imo, they are so refined and well-structured, Souvenirs can't reach a candle to that, as much as I like it. I also have to say that the washy production of that one isn't as much to my liking as the more pristine productions of later albums but that's a matter of preference of course - it's not like that production style wouldn't suit Souvenirs just fine.

The first two tracks of Kodama are perfect, their best ~20 minute run of music imo

First 20 minutes of Kodama are challenging this one's, yeah ... but this wins for me. Both are notably amazing ways to fill an album's first half.

Best 3 Minute stretch of theirs is the finale of Voyages t/t imo

best alcest. this really accesses my dreams with ease, somehow, and brings me back to childhood. i remember staring at the moon from my window while on mushrooms a few years back while jamming this. it seemed like a moment stopped in time, and that is such a beautiful memory looking back.... the last track always gets me very emotional, so this is my first time relistening in a while

Agreed, in atmosphere and mood this is pretty much perfect. Kodama beats it out slightly on emotional impact though for me.
