A lot of the material I've heard post-Ascendency from these guys sounds like the vocalist is trying to imitate Hetfield on Metallica's late 80s to early 90s stuff. They don't really sound like Metallica from a musical standpoint (maybe a few similarities here and there), mostly just in the vocals.

Look at the song titles. It's obvious he's trying to suck Hetfield's chode. The song titles off this band's albums all look like they're from Metallica records.

yeah sure there are similarities, but a lot of folks just say "oh they're trying to rip off metallica" and then just dismiss them as unoriginal or uncreative. i mean shit, they have harsh vocals and clean vocals, and then occasionally he'll do the hetfield esque yell-singing.

that makes them unoriginal? for using a specific vocal style amongst other?

guess we're gonna have to go back and start labeling a lot of bands unoriginal because they used a specific vocal style

That's not the reason I don't really listen to them anymore. I don't really like the style of Hetfield's vocals, therefore I am not a big fan of his clean vocals since he started to do the same. I'm actually listening to this now on Youtube, it's not too shabby so far. It just annoys me when these Hetfield-like vocals come into play.

When he does his normal style of clean vocals I think he sounds great. His scream is also solid and the band is pretty technically proficient. It's got all the inner-workings of a solid metalcore/metal/thrash (whatever these guys are labeled as) band. The only album I have by them is Ascendency, and I really liked it.

i'd highly recommend shogun, then. i'm basically a fanboy of this band though, so my opinions aren't to be trusted
