The second best SYL album by far, but inferior to City for 2 reasons. The guitar sound is less heavier and unlike City this one has double the number of uneven tracks (Love, Shine, Thalamus and We Ride).

What a beautifully chaotic album. There's probably a better way to describe this but it really feels like I'm in his mind experiencing the craziness. Only complaint is the production, way too bright for me.

What headphones do you use? My ears are sensitive to bright mixes and I only use neutral-bright headphones so to my ears and on my equipment it sounds unnaturally bright and drowned out by the 3-8KHz range of frequencies. It's not really unique to this album though as a lot of bands mix their albums bright like this, usually because they aren't using standard monitors for mixing and/or want it to sound neutral on warmer setups.
I'm also thinking some people develop their mix preferences depending on what music they listen to and what headphones they use. Ears become less sensitive over time to more pronounced frequencies and different genres and bands pronounce different frequencies. This album has the typical bright death metal signature while City was more on the warm side and also slightly cleaner and less compressed.

Funny because Yamahas are the OG monitors that studios used to make sure a mix sounded good. Many producers still use them.
