My first post rock experience I believe was The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place but this is a nice intro into the genre I'd imagine.

Never could get in to EITS. Always felt like sappy background music to me.

This album along with Talk Talk's last two makes most of that wave of "post-rock" seem like nothing to me.

In terms of the simpler style God is an astronaut is definitely much better thn EITS but yea the more complex stuff is the tits.

Time to jam this again. I'm so surprised this only has like 200 ratings cause sput normally gushs over influential albums like this.

Godspeed is the only later wave post-rock-after-it-became-a-sound act that I ever got that in to.

hammock, jakob and the evpatoria report are just as good as gy!be imo tbh, although gy!be were a lot more influential than any of those

I love GIAA, Hammock, SR, And GY!BE. I gotta try more Hammock and get into Jakob.

Godspeed were one of the few acts that seemed like they brought enough different styles to the table to make it not seem as one dimensional. The drone and noise elements along with the twinkly guitar bits and crescendos worked together to paint a more diverse sonic picture in my opinion. A lot of stuff starts out sounding nice, but begins to wear thin.

Have you listened to a lot of Sigur Ros? They have a pretty dynamic discography.

Actually, Sigur Ros are one of the other acts I liked. Was more of a fan in the past but they do seem to have more going for them.
