the guy sounds like he's about to cry when he sings, and when paired with the sunny-sounding guitar (which is cool), the album's appeal is greatly diminished

You really summed up the album perfectly.

"Album is, ultimately, about identity."

Good job, man.

love the emotion in these songs. the vocals are cute and unique and honest and if you complain about the lyrics that's like complaining about the beach boys or the beatles lyrics. also the simplicity of the lyrics makes it better for the type of music that it is.

So this is the album that's on every list basically.

I know. And some people have the nerve to put it ten or twenty times in a row!

listening fully after putting it off (saw them live and liked it a lot) this is awesome; not sure how
it got so derided as quote unquote hipster bullshit (no offense to the legit haters out there) when to
me it seems so universally appealing. great, "classic" songwriting

edit: sort of peters off at the end though

i was feeling so sad and alone, till i found a friend in the song that i'm singing

i've always felt that out of all the "indie pop" bands that these guys were the most legitimate songwriters, especially when you see their influences http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q82-NOKOuFQ

Of course it isn't 'hipster bullshit', it's got something called melody which is indeed universal (jj has that too).

Finally got around to listening to this album. It has some good songs but others rely to heavily on effects and become a real snooze fest.

Lust for Life makes me feel all fucked in the head

I enjoy Lust For Life, but everyone I play it for seems to think that it's offensive to women (i.e. girls). I don't know what to say, other than it probably is meant to be offensive, but I don't believe a word in the song. It's just a song.
