Mayhem's Deathcrush is more death metal than black metal

Deathcrush was released in 87, so there begins the second wave

Agree with whoever said that Bathory was the first black metal band.
Venom was Motorhead with satanic lyrics

Celtic Frosh

Celtic Frost really didn't have many black metal traits

RE: Bathory. I dunno, man...Bathory is usually lumped in with Venom and Hellhammer, and I can see how, they're also more "dirty" thrash than anything else...
|
| |
u better return2rock
|

Bathory's first two albums sound similar-ish to this, but in no way is Under The Sign Of The Black Mark just 'dirty thrash', its definitley black metal

Agree with Fade, just because it sounds a bit different, more "dirty" as you put it, doesn't mean that it's not black metal. Remember, Bathory was a first-wave bm band and Darkthrone was a second-wave band. The sound difference in the genre between the first and second wave is noticeable.

yes, but Under the Sign was their third.
and, well, is Possessed "really" death metal? anxd Hellhammer "really" doom? if you said "yes", then Venom is a black metal band. to me, however, all three are a sort of more extreme, grittier, "evil" thrash metal.
