I love how it goes from 80's metal riffing to reggae lol.

Ugh, that's exactly one of the reasons why I think it's garbage hahaha. Awaiting the wrath...

soniscape had a cool beatles-esque tune on it...and i see alot of people asking where to go in the sigh catalogue, my choice is Gallows Gallery (the remaster)...alot of people hate on it, it's like blackened power metal, totally amazing. ^_^

Raise to 4. The Soul Grave and The Summer Funeral are serious business. Not to mention the airplane sounds.

Decibel's review of this album was spot-on

Considering Sigh’s varied sonic experiments over the years, you need to focus primarily on the material in front of your ears. Past records have explored various forms of rock (’70s-style prog meets proto-metal), classic metal (NWOBHM meets ’80s Japan), thrash (German-flavored) and black metal (sometimes Bathory or Venom-like, other times more avant-garde). Recently, they’ve created various symphonic forms of grim, dabbling in atmospheric and orchestrated sounds, attempting to replicate the feel of Italian horror movie soundtracks and, allegedly, German-style classical music. (Check out 2007’s Hangman’s Hymn for reference.)

Sounds cool on paper, and fans of Sigh’s past few records, which likewise stuff classical strings-and-things inside the confines of dirge-y, thrash-y, blasting metal will most likely dig this, um, interesting mish-mash. But unfortunately, to these ears, most of these extreme contrasts don’t gel. For starters, what is being coined as “otherworldly symphonic” sounds (ambitiously created by strings, oboe, clarinet, flute, tuba, trombone, trumpet, etc.), has no force or proper blending in the mix due to spotty production, and ends up sounding like budget synthesizers. The fact that raw and juicy first-wave BM riffs keep getting sat on (the classical bits are way too loud) by cornball melodies that sound like German folk/drinking tunes or dancing-pirate jigs does not help things. This is clearly a case where a band’s “visionary” leader needs to be reined in by a producer.

Hints of genius actually do manage to waft through the mounds of cheese. Not counting the, um, saxophone solos, tracks like “Musica in Tempora Belli” (featuring a cool spoken word bit by Current 93’s David Tibet) and “Vanitas” somehow keep things less Euro Disney and more horror movie, which nearly-kinda-sorta works. Sorta.

Yeah the points raised in Decibel's review are exactly why I dislike this album, and this band in general.

That's the thing I love about the band. There is no middle ground. You either love em or you dont.
