It's all good if we agree on that.

I really liked Phobia's atmosphere, all that darkness and mistery, the intros, the melancholy, it was all awesome.

This album forgot a little bit about that, it's heavier, not so worried about the intros and the atmosphere, it's more turned into the quality of the song itself. We could easily find some fails in Phobia, both lyrically or musically ( IMO, an example of that is Here We Are). I think here it's more dificult to do that.

about the singles, let's face it: Diary of Jane was a lot easier to love than I Will Not Bow. While the first one is much catchier, the last one is a lot more complete in musical terms. Also there is a message in I Will Not Bow, not understandable in a first listen. You have to read the lyrics at least two times (that's what I needed) to really understand the contents, what Ben really means with that. Diary Of Jane wasn't a lyrical success in my opinion. At all.

There is no way this is heavier than Phobia.

I think it's darker than Phobia, which is what makes it heavier. Saturate isn't that heavy imo, it had pounding guitars, but lyrically Ben has gotten darker on the last two albums, which attributes to the overall heaviness. The atmosphere is heavier. This also has a few more aggressive tracks than Phobia.

There are a few of their softest tracks yet on here, but the overall mood is heavier I think. Idk, Phobia might be heavier depending on how you determine "heaviness."

Phobia has much heavier riffs.

Hm, I just compared the riffs, I guess you're right. The Phobia riffs are quite a bit heavier. What I like here is that the heavy tracks are a bit faster, so that they stand out more from the softer tracks. So musically Phobia might be heavier, I still think the lyrics have gotten a bit darker, though. Both are fairly dark, though.

Phobia ends way more despairingly though, imo - in terms of tone and lyrics

Yeah, that's true. There are a few more uplifting qualities in a few of the tracks here. Then you have Dear Agony, which is their most depressing song yet.

Yeah, but this is like Breaking Benjamin's poppiest record

Vocally and melodically, yes, but despite a poppier sound, still keep fairly dark BB-style lyrics, so it isn't as though they've sold out here.

Plus, I think Here We Are was poppier than anything on this album.

True but that was one song compared to a whole album. I don't think BB sold out, i just think they went in the completely opposite direction musically then they did with Phobia

I don't care about BB these days. I used to like them a lot but since I got into better music they're just not doing it for me now.

Yeah, I agree with that. Hence why there is a split opinion on this album.

Edit: @Spirit, not Powerban.

I won't rate this because I'm not into these guys any more though. They're good at what they do but yeah, over alt-rock for the time being. I might get back into it again since I have genre fads.

10 Years > The Butterfly Effect > Chevelle > Breaking Benjamin as far as alt-rock goes imo.

Haven't heard the first 2 groups much yet, (although they were recommended to me so I will eventually

check them out), but I like BB a lot better than Chevelle.

I like BB in certain spots, although they will never write anything that can top Breath.

Yeah Breath was great, definitely one of my fav BB songs. Although Until the End was my Phobia favorite.

'Water' has always been my favourite BB song. Always followed extremely closely by 'Away'.

I only really like a few songs from Saturate, Water ain't one of 'em. Away was in my top few for WANA, though.

"What's all this talk of a notion? I'd rather drink from the ocean."

Yeah, Water's awesome and so is Away. But better than those two, without a doubt, is Breath. xD I love that song.

Ties, you didn't like Saturate? It's my least favorite, but it's still good. I gave a 3. Still, there's people that argue that it was the best thing BB ever did. I STRONGLY disagree, obviously. Saturate was an experiences album. It was fun, but had no consistency, no cencept, it was imature, with mad lyrics, grunge influences, I mean lots of things that are clearly imature when compared to now.

I still think Dear Agony is heavier than Phobia, and think that this last had a much darker atmosphere (IMO the intros perfectly concretize the darkness). Dear Agony had no intros.
