Also the fact that he dropped this, Take Me to Your Leader, Food and Madvillian so close together is fucking nuts and has to be the best 2 year run in hip hop history fr

I think that helped me get into hip-hop in general. this is his best solo album imo. comb have you heard Monsta Island Czars - Escape From Monsta Island!?

I have heard Monsta Island! I'm actually really glad you made that comment because I was actually just trying to find that album when I made my previous comment in this thread and I straight up couldn't remember the name. I actually just found it shortly after DOOMs death was announced. Someone brought it up on the Take Me To Your Leader thread around that time and it might have been you tbh because since then this is the first time I've heard someone mention it. MF GRIMM is so damn slept on imo.

dude fuck what people say, Grimm is on par with Doom. Scars & Memories is a classic. Doom is more popular because of his visual gimmick. Tick, Tick was the best thing either of them ever did and Grimm just flat out surpasses Doom on the track.

I don’t know why people need to compare Grimm to Doom so particularly to begin with. Just because they are closely associated and have worked together on a lot of stuff doesn’t make them inherently comparable. Grimm’s style isn’t anything like Doom’s. The fact that Doom’s style isn’t anything like anyone else’s is why he is such a beloved and iconic legend. Grimm doesn’t set himself apart from everyone else in the genre the same way. Grimm is great, but Doom is one-of-a-kind. And it’s a combination of many things, not just “the visual gimmick”. There’s no way you actually think that’s all that sets Doom apart from other rappers and producers, I think you’re just saying it for the sake of argument. But it’s a pointless argument because Grimm and Doom’s legacies don’t diminish each other and pitting Grimm against Doom in that capacity isn’t really fair to begin with.

Also Grimm kinda just appeals a lot more to heads, Doom has mass appeal. I wouldn’t expect casuals to love Grimm.

I said that only because Grimm is criminally overlooked for no reason, he's legendary like Doom but gets no love or album ratings. I didn't say that's all that sets Doom apart, I meant that's a significant factor in what attracts 'casual' listeners like you said, Grimm doesn't have that element but it doesn't mean his music suffers for it because Grimms style is more grounded anyways. I think what sets Doom apart is his production style more than his look, but his look is what he's known for it seems

I mean ya did say "Doom is more popular because of his visual gimmick". that's a statement without much room for interpretation lol
