I wonder what the sample on "never dead" is: the way it's chopped up, so that the relationship between the parts is obscured or so that the transition between them is weird, makes it sound like morton feldman's string quartet no. 2 or something (although I know it's not)

dissonance that's held for an unusual time in rap production often reminds me of "ride around shinin'" by clipse. (or, there's always "ny state of mind") v different beats tho but man "never dead" rules

ny state of mind is an interesting reference point, never thought of it as particularly dissonant but i get what you mean re-listening to it. ride around shinin i definitely hear.
and yeah i feel like never dead doesn't get enough love, so many cool bars on that.

my favorite DOOM.
mm food is a bit more creative, but this feels like his biggest artistic accomplishment. so many unconventional and avant-garde beats and sonic landscapes. it's a very cold record, but that works in its favor given its musings.
madvillainy is good but this feels like his most unadulterated and honest work
