I can definitely fuck with early Darkthrone, but Burzum can go eat dick. I'm still convinced Filosofem is a big troll meant to fuck up people's ears. The treble is boosted to ungodly levels to the point where it's just static.
I also do most of my listening in the car, and that could be part of the problem. Using real headphones or even my soundbar at home can change things noticeably.

I’m pretty sensitive to boosted treble, there are even albums I love that have the odd uncomfortable ear-piercing moment (at high volumes) that I just put up with. For the greater good and all that.

such a shame cause it friggin rips.

That Xoth track rips.
Sorry, but generally, post-, black, prog or idm are for headphones. There's loads of stuff you simply won't hear through the speakers. Unless you are filthy rich and can afford the proper expensive stuff, which starts at about 20k.

calling BS on everything except the middle sentence. doesn't matter the genre, you'll always detect more detail through headphones sure. doesn't mean they don't sound kickass on a decent speaker though. spent $150 on my soundbar+subwoofer and shit sounds incredible. $20k? thafucc?

what's the point of listening to music if you can't hear all of it as intended

to be fair in most general scenarios, it's the job of whoever is mixing/mastering the audio to make it sound as good as possible through ALL possible listening formats and yeah that includes mono through some garbage phone or laptop speakers in addition to car, headphones, monitors, cpu speakers.

"what's the point of listening to music if you can't hear all of it as intended"
what's the point of working a job earning 50k if there are also jobs out there that pay 500k?
I don't have time in my day to listen to every album on nice big headphones. Most listening I do is in the car, with an earbud at my desk, or while I'm cleaning/cooking/whatever around the house. I'm okay with hearing 95% of what's happening, nobody is going to quiz me on the other 5%

That ratio may hold true for certain subgenres, but definitely not for the ones I've listed.

Or should I say, for most artists of said subgenres.

The difference between listening to, say, Winterfylleth on speakers and headphones is clear as day. If you don't have time for home listening, that's fair enough, life and all. Thank fuck I don't have to worry about that, because I'm my own boss.
