people who love this album are not ever allowed to complain about production for any band or album in the history of music

the acoustic parts sound good but when it jumps back to the noisy parts it suddenly sounds like someone recorded guitar and drums on their blackberry, uploaded it to youtube, then held their phone next to a laptop speaker and recorded the audio from the youtube video

I do wish. We're not having the "production sucks-but it adds to the atmosphere-but it sucks-but it's nice and cold and aggressive and it fits the tone of the music" argument again.

Oh, oops. Guess it's too late for that already.

haha it's just because I'm constantly disappointed and I want to love this shit so badly. the artwork is so cool. The acoustic guitars are beautiful. And then it turns into "12-year old with lunchbox sized amp discovers garageband on his phone" and I feel like I've been bamboozled again.

Haha yeah, if you don't dig the production here there's not much to love.

But if you do this is one perfect album. Those sharp, hard, barely audible through the static riffs and Garm on top is just unbeatable.

"sharp, hard, barely audible through the static"

Trif, I do hope one day I'll "get it" and that reading that sentence won't feel like nails on a chalkboard

If you don't have good headphones (not earphones, fuck that), listening to that stuff is a waste of time

idk man I've listened to Burzum, Darkthrone or early CoF with decent headphones and have had some similar experiences. Like I really want to like it, but can't quite break through that barrier. I can't speak for this or Paysage though.
