black metal/shoegaze band Alcest is whirring away in a land of pristine acoustics and meandering clean vocals which don’t so much form words, in French or otherwise, as they do hum and coo in an overly pretentious sense which almost comes off as arrogant. The entire album is devoid of anything resembling harsh vocals, and while there is absolutely nothing wrong with a band using solely cleans, here it grows tiring as we are presented with uninspired, one-dimensional singing which stays constantly soothing but never emotional.
So much win here.
Album was long overdue for a review like this. Perfect. Might drop this down lower due to the replay factor sucking so hard on this. It's so glossy the first time you listen to it and you almost want to rate it a 4.5/5. Second spin through, you notice the songs kind of float and never propel themselves anywhere.

Thank you everyone... I found the replay value to be very small.
Troll negger strikes.

No, you're wrong.

Agree with this review the most, the album is tiring and with low replay value. Last track is ace though.

I'll read the review after dinner, but I just want to put my word in now. Album is pretty good and I can't hear even one tiny sliver of black metal in here; shoegaze/post-rock all the way.

Thanks, I see what you mean when you say that you dont hear any black metal, but to me the guitars really sound like bm guitars

Well, I guess that's because I don't listen to much black metal. I've only listened to Burzum once and the only other thing with the tag "Black Metal" I listen to regularly is Anaal Nathrakh. I've tried some other stuff, but it just doesn't click with me like other stuff does.

Good review, average album.

Your arguments against this album are really flawed. The songwriting here is great, and you lose pretty much all credibility with your opening line:
Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde is about as black metal as Dark Matter Dimensions is death metal.
The record is not trying to be black metal.

Yeah that what that line is supposed to get across....that it's not black metal and isn't supposed to be... guess it didn't work so well.

The entire album is devoid of anything resembling harsh vocals, something which is expected considering the central focus on shoegaze, and while there is absolutely nothing wrong with a band using solely cleans, here it grows tiring as we are presented with uninspired, one-dimensional singing which stays constantly soothing but never emotional. can you say run on sentence

That's not a run-on sentence.
The songwriting here is great, and you lose pretty much all credibility with your opening line:
I don't know, I think that's a matter of opinion Rasputin. I hear 2 or 3 good songs and the rest just kind of floats off.
The record is not trying to be black metal.
I don't get this either. What are they trying to be then? I hear black metal with alot of shoegaze. Sorry, I just find this review to be a perfect description of the album.
Album is pretty good and I can't hear even one tiny sliver of black metal in here; shoegaze/post-rock all the way.
Well, I guess that's because I don't listen to much black metal.
My god dude, don't post unless you know what the fuck your talking about.
