A big part of why Gravity is so sub-standard to the rest of their albums is that they didn't want it to look like Mike Turner's leaving the band meant they were breaking up (whether that's true or not, I don't know). With Healthy In Paranoid Times, I get the same impression that I got from listening to Clumsy, and what I mean is that when I listen to Clumsy I can see it being a testing ground or prelude to what they did with Happiness... and I can only hope they can accomplish the same degree of growth.

Though I never took much liking to Naveed ( not to say it's a bad album, I still love Starseed), their albums still progressed beautifully, though Gravity being the exception ( changing guitars mid-production is not good for anyone). Mazur does a better job creating his own style and music, rather than trying to fill in for Turner, but seeing OLP live I have seen that Mazur can play the old songs. With Gravity, I can see Mazur trying to put on his what-would-Mike-do-? hat and undermining his own talents as a guitarist.

True, you can see the Bob Rock influence on a lot of the songs in Gravity ( if I was Mike I would have slapped Rock in the face for trying that, and maybe that's a part of why he left). Mazur probably just wanted to take a smaller role since he was the new guy.

The songwriting always seems forced to me, like he's trying as hard as he can to sound deep but is really just saying the same things about the world every band is these days.
What the hell are you talking about? Do you think Raine just sits on the crapper and forces it until his face turns red to get a song out. How in the sweet hell can you force songwriting? If that was possible there certainly wouldn't be any writers block.
About the album, I've decided that my rating of 3 may have been a little low as the album has begun to grown on me, and I'm realizing how great it really is. I still don't really like Where Are You though.

I was pretty sceptical of this album thinking that it would have been like Gravity. However I have given the album a chance and I think it is a major step up from their last release. None of they're albums sound like another which is why I think they're so great. They can make a new, refreshing sound each album and it'll sound good (expect Gravity). However, I can't stand Where Are You. The chorus just makes me cringe. This Message Edited On 04.22.06

I never heard this yet. I wasn't too big on the two singles so..
I never bought any OLP album after Happiness... though I heard Spiritual Machines and it was pretty good.

I just saw this band tonight, and they were great. Raine was pretty funny talking about George Bush, before they sang Wipe That Smile Off Your Face he said "I wrote this song about two years ago, because I hate that man (Bush) ever so much, thank you all for prooving that he is a fucking idiot."
And I have changed my 3 rating to a 4 for this album This Message Edited On 07.20.06

Solid review of an equally solid album. They've done better but still is real good stuff. Some of the lyrics on here are really touching but the sad part is that at some places they seem to just descend into cliched pop rock/pop punk sounding songs. I think they haven't still realized their potential completely with the album.

This in an okay album not their best because I love OLP and I love Raine Maida's voice but this album is very dull although there are some winners here, the best song on here for me is "Al Genina (Leave The Light On)"
