oh.

I'm actually finding myself quite dissatisfied with this album now days.

It seems like it should be a lot better than it is, and a lot better than a lot of it promises to be.

Or at least, as much as people are always promising.

I'll be completely honest, I probably never gave this album a chance to grow with only a couple of listens all the way through. I just never had the urge to revisit it... that could be because it's mediocre, or I'm lazy when it comes to music and only put on records that grab my attention right off the bat. Probably the latter. Both are valid criticisms though.

I really wanted to hear it after reading a glowing review and sampling clips online.

But then when I sat through it for the first time it was quite underwhelming. Then I warmed to it, listened to it a couple dozens of time and it gradually got a bit boring. Not worth the 4.5 I had it at based on my personal opinon.

I don't know. It's an odd album. Really good, but sometimes really dull.

for the longest of times i never believed in albums being sleepers that creep up on you, but almost three or four years after my initial attempts to like this it finally clicked. it started with a song (holland 1945) and then over a period of a couple months grew out from it. it's pretty much the only album that's ever worked its way in such a delayed manner with me.

I'll be quite honest, i rarely listen to this when i'm not stoned... so maybe that's why im so enamored with it.

Then again i rarely listen to anything unless i'm high, so... yeah, not like its getting special treatment.

and as for you tombits, i dont trend hop. since when was liking NMH a "trend?" pretty sure that album has been held in high regards for a nigh eleven years now.

if i see an album that is widely regarded as good here on the site, i'll give it a shot, and every once and a while i'll find a gem, such as this or motW's Bath, and other times i'll find something decent like sigur ros, and sometimes i'll despise it, such as everything dream theater has ever done (wankwank)

"suggestions:

"aesthetic...its divine output" -- "divine output" is unclear, perhaps "its divine associations." A band's "output" would relate more readily to their "corpus" or "oeuvre"

"Where most music is constructed from a range of instruments..." -- "where" -----> "whereas"

"The folk instrumentation on offer is ever-changing" -- I can understand why you think "on offer" works here, but it doesn't. You're trying to avoid the phrase "on display," which you use a couple sentences later. The easiest alternative would be "they offer" instead

" 'she will feed you tomatoes and radio wires " -- you forgot the other apostrophe (') to close this quotation

"Aeroplane is a lyrical overload, moving with such pace and ease through ideas and scenery that it's difficult to focus on, but the lasting impression is, however intangible, incredibly powerful, due in no small part to Mangum's emotive, unorthodox vocals which stretch in range from the high-pitched opening of King Of Carrot Flowers to the low-pitched conversational tone of Communist Daughter, always extremely dramatic." -- this sentence is itself a bit overloaded; break it into two or more smaller sentences"

if this is principa aesthetica again you are so sad

I be loving those french horns. Just picked this up, and I'd have to say I'm pretty impressed. However, I don't rate anything until I listen to it like 10 times at least. Looking at a strong 4.
