Eh, I don't think these guys ever had the best production. Hopefully, the new one might change that.

"Ouch, that blows."

Yeah it does but I have a feeling it's going to end up alright

Townsend's work on Undoing Ruin and Deliver Us suited them pretty nicely imo. I even think the production on the s/t was pretty solid for the most part.

UR and DU are amazing metalcore albums, but I just feel like they sound way too dark and scooped. Townsend is a great producer and he can certainly pull off a good metalcore sound (i.e. Misery Signal's Controller and various Becoming the Archetype albums) but on those 2 albums I just don't like the sound.

But I do like the way their self titled album sounds. It's quite modern sounding and it fits well.

Uhh the one before it definitely. This was just a more melodic more commercial follow-up

Idk man, this album doesn't have a single bad song and it's just brimming with excellent guitar work.

I've also always been a fan of the 'screaming in a melody' thing. How do they do that?

Melodic screaming is something I've ever been able to do unless I'm like whisper shouting which is not what they do

I always just called it pitch screaming, but melodic screaming kinda makes more sense

Just hit a note clean and gradually add more dirt to it. Just make sure it doesn't hurt at any point. On the way to a full on scream you'll find John Henry's pitch screaming and Phil Anselmo's toolbox.

Also, I consider UR a better album than this, but UR doesn't have fucking Doomsayer. That verse riff is nasty.

OH well yeah. Its probably just whichever one you discover first, I guess. Friends of mine swear by hidden hands but I prefer UR.

Remember how it was marketed? There was a sticker on the cover, and all the magazine press, that said "The Best Album of the Decade!". I was like...oh shit I gotta have it! Thats literally why I bought it. Bold AF and certainly not true, but I mean...it sold me...
