Im Impressed with the review and that doesnt happen often.
Thanks a lot.
Long songs can become grueling and annoying to sit through sometimes, but the GR's biggest strength is that they don't succumb to that. I can listen to any of the 10+ minute songs entirely.

I still don't like this album very much.

Ah... ok. After many car rides I am done listening to this. Great stuff. The Grand Conjuration is very good and is probably my favorite track along with Ghosts of Perdition. However, Some songs like Hours of Wealth and Atonement, although melodic and appealing, felt a bit empty. This Message Edited On 02.08.06

I've been a devoted fan of Opeth for quite some time now and I must say that they did NOT disappoint me with this album. Absolutely AMAZING review as well. Favorite songs on the album are probably "Ghost of Perdition" and "Reverie/Harlequin Forest" least favorite track is probably..."Atonement."

Ghost of Perdition kicks even Chuck Norris' a$$.
That's something I've never said before, and now I feel ashamed. :upset:
I take it back, no, no I don't.

I tried to play that acoustic riff from Ghost Of Perdition. I then realized that's it's in a different tuning. I think it's DADFAD or something like that. Sounds great to just stum open minor chords.

Great review man. My second favorite Opeth album, next to Damnation.

I agree this doesn't match Blackwater Park, however it is still an amazing album in my opinion.

I'm really digging the production of this album and the drums. Oh boy THE DRUMS!!.

It's a good album, but I just don't "get it." The heavy parts seem to lack something to me and a lot of the music reminds me of Dream Theater.

No, the hard parts are OK, it's the softer parts, especially the ones that are exclusively soft the ones that bug me at times. They are growing on me though.

Again, this is the first Opeth album I bought. I was not quite sure what to expect at the time. I got home, turned it on, and listened, thinking that I would be on at least the third track, i was mistaken, ghost of perdition was still rolling. Beautiful effort!! :D

^You will be dragged into ultimate Opeth fanboyland like me and so many others.

I just dug out some of my cds and listened to Face Of Melinda, The Moor, The Drapery Falls, A Fair Judgement, and Hope Leaves.
These guys are unspeakably great. Music to lose yourself in.

I usually can't touch death vocals. Some Vocalists like the guy from Necrophagist somehow just make we want to piss myself laughing rather than actually be impressed, but Opeth and Nile really are two of the bands that have got me listening to the more brutal metal.
This album for me just doesn't get old.

GR is definetly not Opeth's finest, and is lacking in various areas. But, it still remains to be a solid release.
