Thanks for the positive feedback, SlimJim367 and XulOnerom. I will definitely admit that it's a bit fanboyish hahaha

Ignore what the ppl ratings 2 and below are saying (except crysis cos hes not constantly bashing this album even tho its clear he doesnt like it) if you had been reading what they have been saying throughout all the reviews of this album, its clear they would react that way to a 5 review. Its a really well written review and beats the shit out of mine.

Just a piece of advice: try and avoid things like 'dan briggs is the best bassist of this century' and stuff like that because statements like that can garner alot of criticism even from people who like the album. Not only that but its a huge claim, theres alot of talented bassists out there, its just fortunate that BTBAM use Dan's ability more to their strengths adding another dimension to their sound.

Apart from that for a first review, good work :thumb:

i honestly think this is probably their most immature album yet. it just seems like they're trying WAY too hard to show how much they can combine genres. don't get me wrong, they pull off some awesome stuff in basically all of the songs, but throughout the whole album there are some parts i just can't take seriously, such as in:

Disease, Injury, Madness- seriously, fuck that neighing horse bullshit at 6:57

Fossil Genera- i can barely stand the intro, and the synths later on in the song are just too goofy.

Desert of Song- the whole thing has this weird ballad feel that i really can't get into considering it's btbam

Swim to the Moon- ugh...the steel drums at the beginning. i hate the keyboard solo, it seems so terribly made compared to the excellent guitar work.

i have absolutely no problems with either Mirrors or Obfuscation, and they still manage to get their genre splitting business across.

sorry for the long post, i'm just so utterly disappointed with this

i wouldnt say it's immature relative to their other releases, but yeah you basically described a lot of what's wrong with the album. the wankiness is bad too though.

i think the wankiness can go either way, depending on the listener. actually, the wanking did irk me pretty bad at times, just not as much as those stupid little quirks i mentioned above

I obviously like the album quite a bit more than you, shablaman hahaha which is totally fine. I'm commenting because I must agree with you on the keyboard solo in Swim to the Moon... The more I hear the album, the more that solo just bugs me. The only way it's justified is if you take it in a fun/wacky way, not in a seriously musical way. Still, they definitely should've left it out. I admit that.

I love the whinny in Disease, the intro to Fossil and the whole of Desert, though To each his own.

Dropped down to a 4.5 and edited as such. Cut out more of the fanboyism as well

This was a good review, people be bitchin' about stupid shit. This makes me want to listen to the album again- I found myself enjoying it more than most other people. Mirrors and Obfuscation are both fantastic.

Thanks, man! It's funny how much this album (and BTBAM in general) has grown off me in the last couple years. The review was originally a 5 and I'm just too lazy to edit it all the way down to a 3.5 lol. They're fantastic musicians and there is some really, really cool stuff on here, but I turned into too much of a Radiohead fanboy to really get into this stuff anymore.

But again, thanks for the positive comments!

They've actually grown on me lately; Sputnik had me convinced that they weren't fun to listen to, but damn, I listened to this album today and forgot how much I enjoy it. I actually wrote a review today! You may have commented on it.. I don't remember lol.
