this definitely did not age very well. especially compared to WTA

I’m enjoying it having never listened to it before. Those cleans are hilariously fitting

to be fair that was kinda the style back in 2003
|

this album does have some cool vox. Bunch of emo kids playing grind
|
| |
lol yeah and metal nerds got upset so they called it false grind
id take false grind over boring ass grind anyway. at least false grind has screeching (sassy)
|
| |
Gotta have screeching

album is terrible af but i used to love it
|

haha is great mate but i could see that view on the surface level

I always kinda felt that up until WTA this band always kinda had like one really cool section per song sandwiched between a bunch of senseless wank. That was hip tho.
|
| |
^ really describes my problem with 99% of the genre. Too much filler
|
| |
Honestly kind of a problem with a lot of metal subgenres. Or if it isn’t sandwiched between a bunch of senseless wank the good stuff is sandwiched between a bunch of really vapid riffs or shredz

yeah 60% of metal is bad
|
| |
thats a lowball estimate
|
| |
Yeah that’s really optimistic
|
| |
I wonder why it is. I think because metal is so focused on being epic or technical and forgo songwriting for it too often

A lot of metal just tends to bleed together if you listen to enough of it. I think it's a genre you got to listen to early on otherwise you can grow disinterested in it. I have a hard time caring about a lot of straight death metal and thrash and power metal are almost entirely intolerable to me.

It depends I mean bands like paysage d’hiver, pig destroyer, gorguts, System of a Down all deviate from the formulas of their respective genres. But agreed that lately it has looked particularly bleak for metal. But really all genres imo with regards to creativity and quality. And you mentioned each of the metal genres that I happen to agree there is no hope for lol

I think there's an ebb and flow for genres over time. We'll see new bands come and go and maybe some hold the flame alive. I like metalcore a lot and it's probably one of the bottom 3 sub genres of metal to most on this site I'd say. You can only have so many ideas to stand out, I guess it's just a matter of taste and preference and if the person behind the music makes a connection with you that others can't. I stan this band pretty hard for example.

I can see it this band p cool but I haven’t heard any good metalcore since the 00s
