Sons and Daughters is incredible but Geese is my favourite off this. There is some bittersweet and innocent quality to it that is quite endearing

Still my favourite National. I just wish they'd do this this sound again someday.

Geese, Secret Meeting, Mr November and Astronauts are probably my top 4 here.

Re-listened to this today after listening to their entire discog for the first time, and I honestly forgot how much I loved this. I guess I burnt it out a bit at first so that affected my rating. At any rate, bumped this from 4 to 4.5. Also shuffled my National rankings around (haven’t listened to the debut or IAETF yet):
TWFM
A
HV
SWB
B
SSFDL

Dang son, that's some low rankings for Sad Songs and Boxer
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.5
I still love them though. Boxer is a hard 4 for me. Sad Songs is a 3.5, but only because about half the album is kinda meh. The good half is 5 though. If they had kept up that quality, this would be a 4 and maybe even a 4.5.
As much as I like them, something has to be last ya know?

Sad Songs is good. But it’s not THAT good.
Baby, We’ll Be Fine is solid and everything but I don’t think it’s in the top half of this album.

"Baby We'll Be Fine" is a blinder but such is the quality of this album that idk if it's in my top 5 of the tracks on here

Baby We'll Be Fine feels like a Tindersticks discard...fite me?
It sounds like the dictionary definition of a middle hitter album cut to me but I certainly don't dislike it or anything like that.

If Side B was as strong as Side A on Sad Songs I'd rate it higher than this - easily
But it isn't...so I don't
