Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint and Black Album are the only essential Jay Z albums. there are some other worthwhile records in his discog if you're a fan, but i think any east coast hip hop fan (or mainstream hip hop for that matter) should like those three records.

ight, i'm gonna give this a listen now. i was extremely put off by his last few albums. something about his voice just pisses me off lol. and his flow is terrible. again though, i'm just making these observations based on his guest appearances and like 4 of his recent albums

Listening to this for the first time and the mid-range chorused thing in dead presidents 2 is absolutely gorgeous

It's kind of weird how he's never even come close to matching the lyrical abilities he displayed on this album

Maybe give this a spin, a friend recommended it to me after I said I wasn't into Jay's modern crap like Empire State of Mind. Pleasantly surprised.

Dude the rest of his shit isn't boring come on Ford. The Blueprint is one of the best hip hop albums ever for me, same with this. The Black Album slays face too.

I was being a bit dramatic, the black album was alright, heard some of his other stuff and wasn't blown away but I'm not huge on this genre anyways so it's probably not his fault

I barely care for his stuff these days either, hell the only song I listen to from this album anymore these days is Brooklyn's Finest

You think?

To be honest, I've always thought that Jay only had three albums worthy of note anyway. Listen to those.
