He was a pretty hit or miss Mc, he was lacking when it came to having killer lines and a lot of his
flow was either completely generic or uninteresting

Plus, when it came to rhymes, the dude was just ok. Nothing special, just ok. Ah and his beats were
boring 80% of the time.

He had some interesting topics to talk about, yes, but for the most part he was just never that great,
even if he hadn't been called "The best rapper of all time" by so many people

Also gotta lol hard whenever someone talks about how great of an "inspiration" the guy was or
whatever. the fucking guy went to prison several times, I'm pretty sure rapping about being poor
doesn't change that fact

Your criteria for judging rap ignores rap's origin completely and expects artists to all retrospectively conform to today's popular sounds. 2pac was not really about rhymes or flow, those are only cornerstones of the new rap style that took over around when he died.

I don't see how beats have anything to do with being a good rapper unless you produced them?

Going to prison multiple times doesn't necessarily make you a bad person, in fact, its pretty clear from his lyrics that he had an epiphany in prison and changed his life and dedicated it to helping others. He didn't rap only about "being poor" he rapped mostly about ending racism, personal responsibility, your effect on society, stopping violence and having safe fun.

you're so right, who needs basic rapping skills when you have a melodramatic backstory

there's too much arguing about 2pac on this thread and not enough recognition about how good the mix record Jaydiohead really is

2pac doesn't have basic rapping skills? Anyway, you missed the point entirely. In the early 90s and before rap's forte was the lyrics and the message, he wasn't even trying to succeed in the areas you criticize him.
