Using the word "simple" probably wasn't the right word. When I listen to the guitar and the drum patterns, they're generally pretty average and not very exciting. The exciting part of the songs come from her vocal melodies and the keyboards/orchestration. My opinion that they're not good song writers comes from the fact that the drum and guitar patterns have seen very little variation over multiple albums. They seem to recycle a few riffs and rely on Sharon and the orchestras to gloss over it.

I agree, its also the main problem with many power metal bands for example. Like I said man, if I
want interesting muscianship then WT it's not the place I'd go look for.


This is why WT, for better for worse, are so far from metal nowdays. Forget the guitars, drums, its
only the melody that really matters.

It's a tricky subject actually, after all isn't writting a simple good melody using the best tools
avaible (orchestra tricks and amazing voice) as rewarding as for instance making a 40 mnt concept
album based on one entirely song with lots of tempo changes, solos, etc..?

Opinions, I guess, as for me it depends on the mood, really.

I agree with everything you said. I think I'm still being misunderstood. I said that they weren't known as good songwriters because they seem to be one-trick ponies, but I never said the music was bad. A good song writer doesn't need to crank out a 40-minute prog song, they just need to show a bit of creativity and variation between songs.

Lol, I don't hate the band at all but this release was useless... as if their songs aren't soft enough already to put a baby to sleep! However Utopia was a nice precedent to the Unforgiving,it did mark the turning point nonetheless.
