Clearly your ignorance outshines your incapable ears - or unimpressive prose. I can't tell which is going on here. Maybe both?
Intellectual ownage right there.

SurelyFire
You Fail Me in general has a much more post-metal appearance to it. No Heroes built on the whole Slayer + hardcore thing and almost made Converge sound like a thrash metal band. I was explaining the general gist of both of those albums.
I don't see how every guest has a more expansive palette than the members of Converge. Converge in general is impressively experimental and Kurt Ballou's guest work on Pygmy Lush, Supermachiner, etc. I'd say Ballou is probably one of the most imaginative metal guitarists ever.
Your sixth paragraph is all personal opinion so I won't really address that. In that same light this review is meant to be my opinion on Converge's new record. I think I backed up all of my points with my own reasoning throughout the review. Sorry to waste your time, but I don't really see what you're talking about at all.

hahahahaaha. and who the fuck are you, most worldly reader? 20 minutes or 20 years - I can still read. Because of morons like you, there is no reason to express any utterance on internet forum sites. Why am I still wasting time? Oh because I wanted to remind you to grow up. Get a job - or do something... 3218 posts? Get a fucking life.

EEK! often you're the very reason people do post on the internet because you're getting so fucking offended you're fun to rile. I'm the one who agrees with you basically but calm the cheez down

Album Rating: 3.0
If I might add something, I think the review has to be weighted in context. It's hard to just hear "Axe to Fall" and not to think of previous works. The album itself is not bad, I agree, but it's not a step forward either. Simply put, it doesn't surprise you, nor gives you the impression they're doing things better than before.
A newcomer might find the album impressive, but a long time fan knows this is average for Converge, hence the 2.5 rating. This could be misleading, but you can't say it's an awesome album. Four and five stars ratings should be left for really noteworthy material.

As a very long-time Converge fan (not just when they got huge on Sputnik or started getting big everywhere else etc etc) this is still fucking stellar. If you find it average than so be it, I respect that - but don't try and act like all "long time fans" think of this the same way.

I should have written "long time fans SHOULD know...", but of course, is evident than they think otherwise. That's ok, because I myself like the album a lot, and I'm a newbie to them. But I assumed a long fan time would have found it very unimpressive, regarding previous albums, so a 2.5 rating is very reasonable.
But if you really think this album is stellar, and Converge can't do better than this, more power to you.

First of all, at no point did I say that Converge were not capable of making something better than this. Converge are certainly capable of making another "masterpiece" (as often Jane Doe is held) at any point in their career, but this is a stellar place for them to be. While most bands (in metal/hardcore especially, but even any genre) easily fade out after far less albums, Converge has not in anyway compromised their sound or beliefs to make people like yourself happy. This is a perfect snapshot of where they stand as a band.
Second of all - if you are "a newbie" as you say you are, why are you trying to tell us "long time fans" what we "SHOULD know" about anything? Your arguments are well written and you don't resort to name calling or other common internet argument traps - but you have seemed to use your intelligence to cover up not having a point. I respect that you hold this to whatever rating you may - but don't act like putting words in my mouth or telling me where my values in music should be is a competent argument.

bingo!
gentleman, there are no concrete better or worse albums, it's all really just likes and dislikes: agree to disagree or change your mind (and if the answer is noooo, can I change. your. mind ♫♫♫)

Mr. War:
Thanks for your comments, are well appreciated. I didn't want to start a war (no pun intended), just to express an opinion. I even wrote a review for the album. But I do have a point, you just don't see it, because you think the album is stellar, and apparently, long time fans should be able to see it, the exact opposite of my statement.
I discovered Converge in the last month or so, and I've heard all his albums in heavy rotation. I even didn't know they were releasing a new album. So when I heard it, it was more of the same to me. Of course, it's good, but not great. Long time fans have years to assimilate and be able to dissect their sound. They know them, and know what to expect from the band. Well, it seems I'm wrong, and we the fans should be very pleased with "Axe to Fall", because it's the perfect snapshot of where they stand as a band. But I'd would have swore this snapshot was taken several years ago.
Natey: I think you actually changed my mind
