mladic is solid and works great as an intro track. the other 3 tracks fall short pretty hard imo. this has a couple slight lulls in it but is quite consistent otherwise. 09-15-00 part 2 and bits of rockets fall are dull but otherwise it's pretty bangin and quite varied from their previous work.

I feel like fans of Labradford might appreciate Yanqui U.X.O. more than others. I hear a clear influence on tracks 1, 2 and 4.

Mladic is excellent but Asunder is the best reunion album overall, and this is better than all 3 imo

Beef I like it a lot, their most subtle, but I prefer all their others.

All their albums are pretty different from each other imo, including the new one. It does subvert the formula the previous two albums had: two 10-20 minute epics with two shorter drone tracks. Overall it's very subdued and meandering, not very compelling or loud, so people who like their Godspeed epic, grandiose, and heavy like Mladic probably wouldn't dig the new one. But if you listen closely there's a lot of rewarding things going on.

This and the 2010s records are pretty different so don't be surprised if you're let down at first, but they're all great in their own way.

I prefer the new one to Asunder, but I definitely agree with you. They've clearly went in a new direction, I like how they emphasised drone and repetition without resorting to the typical crescendos and bombast, but there's definitely room for refinement. Hopefully the next album does this.

"without resorting to the typical crescendos and bombast"
really? imo, whenever they don't drone, the new albums always resort to typical crescendos and bombast (besides the 2012 one, it's a gem).
