I stopped reading the review as soon as the ''oh luk, sum bombastic stuff! some1's pullin a nightwish olololol'' argument came up.
Also, the disappointed fanbase seem to be awfully pleased.
I enjoy this album tremendously, it's not a bad album at all imo.

But Nightwish did a good job in the transition from power metal to symphonic metal. Dark Passion Play was a great album. Aside from the first few tracks, this is painfully average. From Breathing until the last track, nothing interesting happens. Elias doesn't do anything for his debut. Harmonic keyboards are exchanged for a more mellow style. Things are slow and unexciting.

Hey, c'mon, this cd at least deserves a 3 for a kickass album cover. ;) Heh, kidding, I haven't listened to this yet.

I'll check this out for myself before I judge, but it seems that Sonata is another one of those bands that are unable to live up to their years of glory. Unia was okay. There were some really good songs on it, but the album as a whole wasn't very spectacular.

I don't mind they're pulling a Nightwish; check out my ratings for Nightwish and you'll see I love them. This is just terrible compared to the NW transition.

There has got to be something wrong with your brain. Or perhaps it's mine. All the same: I'm digging this album like hell. The first two listens gave me a somewhat "meh" feeling, but that's nothing surprising. Since then the songs have kept getting better and better. If this trend doesn't cease, TDoG may surpass Unia as their best album (I like the old stuff too. It's just so boring compared to what they are doing nowdays.).
Do you want to know why their trasition to Symphonic metal seems like such a failure? Because no such thing has taken place. Sure, there are some symphonic elements here, but that hardly changes their genre (which is quite ambigious to begin with: this is not power metal anymore.). Much in the same fashion as humming whilst walking doesn't make me a professional singer.

Then what is it? Shit metal?

lol. I don't think this is that bad. I'll probably end up giving it a 3-3.5 though. Nothing will ever beat Ecliptica though.

All I can say... thank god I like this album myself. Sucks for you guys.
I wanted to change my rating to a 4.5 since that would be more accurate to my appreciation but looking at how people are throwing 2.5's at this....pfff, for greater justice, a 5.

Reckoning Night was so much better.

But how the hell can you not like Juliet? One of the better songs of the SA discography imo.

Because it's just a bad version of Caleb. I've listened to the album multiple times and nothing sticks except Flag, Last Amazing and parts of Deathaura.

Dethaura is hectic and unorganized, but I really like it. The first minute of Juliet is very good, but after that it sounds just like the rest of the album.

I'm about halfway through it now. It seems kind of bland so far. I think I'll probably need to give it at least four listens to give it a chance to grow on me before I rate it. Doesn't even seem to come close to their older albums, though. Ecliptica, Silence and Reckoning Night are so damn good.
Btw, I think I prefer the post-Century Child Nightwish over the stuff before that. Oceanborn is amazing, though.

I'm not even going to check this out. SA don't have my attention except for a couple of great songs.
