hmmm, then i'll look this up, though i don't think MDB vocals are horrible in any way. I kinda like Aaron Stainthrope's vocals..... I generally don't think Aaron's vocals are horrible either, but I do think that Paradise Lost's are better. The only Paradise Lost I own is Gothic and I haven't listened to it in ages. The one song you told Rasputin to check out from this sounded decent, so I might make the effort to listen to the whole stream. You might be surprised. Rasputin didn't want to bother with this either and now he's into it.

Music seems to have a longer lasting appeal when your drawn into the song for what it is and not just for a catchy chorus.
So true Lisbon

another album to put on my long list of albums to check out

Heh, you love 'em or hate 'em. Nick's seem to be easier on the ears for most people, but then he doesn't growl. MDB and Paradise Lost are two VERY different bands.
btw why don't quote/etc html tags work in review comments?

They do. Use brackets [].

Godamnit Willie I can't stop listening to this, the reason this is a bad thing is cause I can only listen to this off their myspace. As I plan to purchase the cd whenever I find it in a fucking store.

Well, good luck with that. I'm sure it will make its way into stores eventually. Looking at what you're digging reminds me that I still haven't started that review...

Yeah, they're definitely different bands and not just in the vocals. Paradise Lost's songs aren't nearly as expansive as most the My Dying Bride stuff (Like Gods of the Sun being the exception).

can't really agree with that, coz among the 5 albums of MDB i've listened to, 4 are hands-down amazing, namely, TURN LOOSE THE SWANS, THE ANGEL AND THE DARK RIVER, THE DREADFUL HOURS and SONG OF DARKNESS WORDS OF LIGHT and the fifth one, FOR THE LIES I SIRE, was uhhh, well underwhelming...

I can't get into the first two you mentioned, but the next two are great and the new one blows

well, i would have said the same thing about the new one, but its just that i love MDB too much to say something like that out openly, even though i agree that it was a pretty weak album.

How does one love MDB exactly? Go into a forest with a cd player and drink wine under the moon?

uhh, well i don't really know what to say to that....:/

I was just being a dick. I hate MDB with a passion. Id like to change that blistering hate to moderate enjoyement. Maybe some day.

nick holmes isn't hunting wabbits but he's still got his James Hetfield imitation to deal with

I don't think the Hetfield similarity is that big a factor. I wouldn't have even noticed it unless the name was mentioned in the review.

It's not as big of a similarity as it was on Draconian Times. That was the big album where it was the most prominent.
