I don't know if you can call them "Opeth-esque" considering the fact that they've been doing that since the early nineties.

Not at all. Paradise Lost had some ambient/minimalist passages and clean guitar sections but not quite the same as e.g 3:37 in Horizon's End, pretty new for PL.
btw I have PL's entire catalogue and have been listening to them for many years, I'm well aware that PL probably influenced Opeth first...but influence can go both ways.
So far I'm not sure which is better...this or In Requiem. My only real complaints are the production...vocals need to be higher in the mix and everything needs to be less compressed/dead. There are some real standout tracks, though..."I Remain" is awesome, "Frailty" was a pleasant surprise, and "The Rise of Denial" is m/ worthy.

Brilliant album. Probably the best since Draconian Times imo.
Couldn't quite get into In requim, good as it is i prefer the self titled.
Hopefully this will give them more recognition than they're getting over here (UK)

Well, that is quite a gap, betweeon this, and Gothic, which was first and last album i've checked from Paradise Lost outputs. And Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us pushes me brush the dust of the old Gothic and find one or two clues to why I enjoy the last effort.

The quality of the leak is pretty bad.
I guess i should buy this.
I've enjoyed every single release from these guys, including their synth-pop albums.

It's too early for me to rate this album, but from hearing it once I think it's very good. It certainly has a more cohesive feel than their other albums and musically I think it's a continuation from 'In Requiem'. It's also heavier than its predecessor and I think that Nick Holmes' vocals are the main reason for this. I'm looking forward to listening to this more in the next few weeks...

I dunno if I'd go so far as to call that period synth-pop... It was still kind of gloomy. I'd say it was alternative.
Believe in Nothing, One Second, and Symbol of Life were all very solid IMO.
New one just keeps getting better with listens.

Finally new Paradise Lost. I'm not ashamed to admit it; I'm a raving Paradise Lost fanboy. The only album of theirs that I wasn't that impressed with was Believe in Nothing, but thankfully Symbol of Life came out and totally redeemed the band. In Requiem and the s/t 2005 release are among my favorite albums EVER. Love Paradise Lost. Icon is on my top 10 albums OF ALL TIME.

@Det_Nosnip:
Yeah, probably not synth-pop, i only used that tag because of the song "Say Just Words" from One Second, which is pretty poppy.
And i quite liked Believe in Nothing, it was pretty solid rock.
I really need to get this though..

Say Just Words is straight up rock, man...I'd say the rest of the album is more poppy. The whole album has a sort of classic Cult(the band)-ish vibe to it.

Really? I always thought Believe in Nothing was the best from that period. Mouth was a great song.

I would say that One Second is a lot more similar to Sisters of Mercy than the Cult. In fact, I consider it to be a pretty blatant rip-off of Sisters of Mercy. PL was struggling to find their voice at that time. At least that's how it felt to me. Host was pretty damn similar to Depeche Mode, especially Black Celebration era. Host is a very synth-poppy album.
Believe in Nothing is just kinda boring to me. Mouth is a pretty good song but I usually skip around the rest. Symbol of Life is all awesome though.

I dunno if I'd go so far as to call that period synth-pop Yeah, the only 100% synth-pop album would be Host, but I've always associated One Second and Believe in Nothing with that album anyway (because they're closer to that than they are Draconian Times or Symbol of Life). I enjoy all three of those albums, though.im glad you were insistent trey, im enjoying this Cool. I thought you might like this. To me, it has that Asphyx feel to it.

hmmm, then i'll look this up, though i don't think MDB vocals are horrible in any way. I kinda like Aaron Stainthrope's vocals.....

The only Paradise Lost I own is Gothic and I haven't listened to it in ages. The one song you told Rasputin to check out from this sounded decent, so I might make the effort to listen to the whole stream.
