caught the last US show in NY. Gallagher ripped the strings out of his guitar and I got one that's probs my favorite piece of live swag.

I wasn't able to catch them before the breakup, but friends told me that they tended to get shown up by their openers. Red Sparowes in particular.

Maybe in stage presence, but I've never been too much for showmanship. Melvins was set to headline that night, but Buzzo announced that they were defering to Isis since it was one of their last shows. I thought both bands were great.

Finally going through Isis’ discog and decided to start with what many consider to be their best. Very compelling, powerful and impressive shit. That said, I’m not really accustomed to listening to essential instrumental music. I know Aaron sings occasionally but it’s basically instrumental. Amazing music but it does feel like vocals are missing to me. I love Palms but couldn’t imagine it without Chink/vocals.

Maybe I’ll get more used to it with subsequent listens. Does he sing a bit more on later albums? Regardless, I love it and look forward to the rest.

Stage lighting and presentation has gotten so much better in the last 10-15 years too. Not that its the most important thing, but modern lighting would probably have done them well.

The couple of times I saw MOTA it was just like a flat red / blue light. Luckily they rule, but I'd be lying if I said that the audience was captivated.

Larkin, they definitely have extended instrumental sections in most of their songs. Maybe In the Absence of Truth will grab you more - try Garden of Light.
